Hi i am really hoping that someone can help. I have a 1999 ford galaxy automatic which has been a good car until recently. About two weeks ago the car would not change up in gear reving the engine too high in my opinion, this occurred about three times but each time it passed as quickly as it came. :D

Anyway called at the local shops and upon my return the car turned over but would not start :D so i called the AA who told me the RED flashing light in the door meant that the "car did not recognise the key" but since then found another web site which highlited the flashing fault code which showd 1-6 wire disconnected or loose. I really do not want to rip the car appart trying to find the boxes that make it all go just to find that the answer lay elsewhere.

As a contributor said in another section HAYNES MANUALS are not what they used to be :D AND AS FOR FORD :D everything is BRING IT DOWN AND WE WILL LOOK AT IT, but only if you have won the lottery.

Cheers for reading MAC

usually means there is a problem with the 'passive anti theft system' - PATS but IIRC the number of flashes does give an error code - will need to have a look, if you provided some idea of your location someone with a vag-com may be prepared to read any stored fault code for the price of a pint.

from TIS

The PATS shares the same LED indicator with the anti-theft alarm system although PATS is totally independent and has priority of the LED operation.

Whenever the ignition is switched on the LED will remain on for three seconds whilst the system carries out a self-test and then extinguish.

The LED will flash rapidly to indicate the PATS has immobilised the vehicle.

A fault on the PATS which enables the engine to start will be indicated by illuminating the LED continuously for one minute, and then flash the PATS fault code ten times. If the engine cannot be started (disabled by PATS) the LED will flash fast for one minute, followed by the PATS fault code ten times.

Hi nikpv i live in gorton east manchester. The symptoms you suggest are bang on the fast flashing red door light for one minute then the single flash followed by six flashes over and over. Hope this helps you work it out cheers MAC :D

I thought I had the pats error codes somewhere but can't find them at the moment, will keep looking but someone else may have them.

do you have another key, if so try it when you have the problem.

no $hit Sherlock! :D :D

i think the PATS system could be part of the problem.

but i got a feeling you will have to leave it with fords.
